New Relationship Fund
The New Relationship Fund (NRF) is a provincial program funded by Indigenous Services Ontario that provides funding for First Nation communities to build capacity for consultation and engagement with proponents and all levels of government. The program manages intake, review, and analysis of all consultation correspondence received by Munsee-Delaware Nation and keeps Chief and Council informed of any proponents impacting the Nation.
WHY WE’RE HERE
Our Role
The New Relationship Fund builds Munsee-Delaware Nation’s capacity to participate meaningfully in consultation processes, ensuring the Nation’s interests and rights are protected when development projects impact MDN lands, resources, or treaty rights. The program coordinates engagement opportunities, administers capacity agreements, and represents MDN’s interests in provincial and regional initiatives.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
Services & Support
Consultation Review
Review and analyze all consultation correspondence received by Munsee-Delaware Nation, identifying projects that may impact the Nation’s interests.
Proponent Engagement
Coordinate engagement opportunities with proponents at various project stages, ensuring MDN has meaningful input throughout development processes.
Capacity Agreements
Administer capacity agreements with proponents to cover MDN expenses related to project engagement, impact assessments, and consultation activities.
Chief & Council Updates
Provide regular updates to Chief and Council on active projects, engagement opportunities, and community benefits agreements.
Archaeology Coordination
Facilitate archaeology monitoring requests and coordinate MDN monitors for on-site work as required by consultants.
Regional Participation
Participate in Anishinabek Nation training, provincial duty-to-consult initiatives, and regional committees affecting MDN interests.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Active Capacity Agreements
Green Lane Landfill Capacity Agreement
Landfill Gas Study covering all Munsee-Delaware Nation expenses related to the project. The agreement provides funding for completing assessments to identify any adverse impacts to MDN, including cumulative impacts from ongoing landfill operations. The program participates in the Landfill Gas Study Steering Committee, working with the City of Toronto to identify possible uses of landfill gas.
Hydro One Capacity Agreement
Longwoods to Lakeshore hydro line project covering all MDN expenses related to consultation and engagement activities. The agreement funds impact assessments, meeting participation, and all costs associated with ensuring MDN’s interests are represented throughout the project lifecycle.
