Community & Social Services

Family & Youth Prevention Services

Prevention Services contains preventative programs that are provided at the community level. The purpose of Prevention Services programs is to strengthen families and communities, to address the underlying issues that lead to child protection issues, and to prevent children from becoming in need of protection.

WHY WE EXIST

Our Vision

Our existence stems from the realization that First Nations children are over-represented in the mainstream child welfare system. Further, our people are also over-represented in the prison system, which is reflective of the tragic legacy that First Nations have experienced under the control of government policy. Our Chief and Council have a vision of Prevention Services, as integral to returning our children home, and our families and people to wholistically healthy lives. We realize only too well how First Nations people are marginalized in the very country of their origin. We will absolutely service the “unique needs” of our people.
